Fishing the clear
mountain streams is very popular. Non-resident 3-day fishing
liscenses can be purchased for $15.00. For more information on fly fishing,

Otter Creek Wilderness
covers 20,000 acres and has around 50 miles of trails. An ingenious system
of revolving barrels adds lime to Otter Creek, lowering the acidity so the water will
support trout.
A beautiful swinging bridge at the mouth of Otter Creek, where it joins the Dry Fork provides
access to the north end of the Wilderness Area.
In addition to these wilderness areas, the Spruce
Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area,
Canaan Valley State Park, and Blackwater Falls State Park are all less than 25 miles from
Mountain Retreat. Miles of hiking trails and a variety of fishing streams are
easily accessible.
